About

That’s an excellent set of questions you have there. It would be a shame if someone…answered them.

I’m Jessica. Like many writers, I had dreams of being an author ever since I was little. I kept notebooks next to my bed so that before I went to sleep, I could write down stories that would spark up the movie theater in my head, turning words into images playing in my mind’s eye. These stories were just for me; little things to keep me entertained or to put myself in the fictional worlds I loved reading about. Writing was FUN.

At some point after undergrad, I decided that I wanted to try to make writing my career, because I loved it so much.

And then shit got real.

All of a sudden, I was writing not only for myself, but for other people. And with that arose every single insecurity I have ever had in my life. Probably. Maybe even more.

I love to write. I love to create, and I love to help others realize their story’s vision. I don’t love being in my own way.

There are so many perceived pressures around being creative: that is has to be worth not just our time but everyone else’s, that we need to monetize it, that real writers and artists do things a certain way (usually the exact ways we are not). And for me, the fear that it needs to be PERFECT.

Word Turtles is my answer to all those fears and pressures, both internal and external. It’s something I need in my creative life, and so I hope it can also be helpful for yours. Here you will find resources and support to help you create on your own terms.
